About this policy

This Privacy Policy explains how HearVine (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the HearVine Android app and this website. HearVine is an audio Bible service. No account is required to use the current app.

Some information stays on your device. Other information is processed to deliver audio, register push reminders, support advertising, or manage purchases. The sections below explain these differences.

Information we process

Information stored on your device

The app stores your preferences, chosen Bible translation, saved passages and series, listening history, playback progress, completed content, reminder settings, and listening access records. It may cache or download eligible audio. It also stores purchase status and purchase tokens supplied by Google Play to recognize your subscription.

Push reminder registration

When Firebase messaging is configured, the app can register an installation with our reminder service when the app starts or a token changes. Registration includes a randomly generated installation ID, Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token, time zone, four reminder preference switches, device manufacturer and model, Android version, app version, and app build. Registration may occur even when notification permission has not been granted. Notification permission controls whether notifications can be shown.

Usage and diagnostic events

The app maintains a bounded local queue of usage events, such as playback, content selection, translation changes, ad results, subscription results, and technical errors. Event fields may include content references, timestamps, listening progress, language, and access status. If an analytics endpoint is enabled in a release, queued events may be transmitted to our service. Raw search text is excluded from this analytics queue; search events use categories, query-length ranges, and result counts.

Technical and network information

Our hosting, content delivery, advertising, and messaging providers may process your IP address, request timestamps, device or browser information, network information, and service logs when your device connects to them. Requests for a specific audio file or passage can reveal the content being accessed.

Purchases and advertising

Google Play processes payment details and supplies purchase information to the app. We do not receive your full payment card number. Where advertising is enabled, Google Mobile Ads and its partners may process advertising identifiers, IP address, device information, app interactions, ad activity, and diagnostics, subject to your region, device settings, and applicable consent choices.

Why information is used

• Deliver Scripture text and audio, restore your place, and show relevant listening content.
• Maintain saved content, settings, daily access, and subscription entitlements.
• Schedule and deliver reminders using your time zone and preferences.
• Present ads and manage consent where ad-supported listening is available.
• Understand service use, diagnose errors, prevent abuse, and maintain reliability.
• Respond to support or privacy requests and meet legal obligations.

Scripture choices and listening activity can reveal religious interests or beliefs. We do not ask you to declare a religious affiliation. We do not use saved passages or listening history to create religious-belief advertising audiences. Advertising providers’ processing is governed by the consent settings and policies linked below.

Service providers and sharing

Information may be processed by service providers as needed to operate HearVine:

• Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: delivery of push reminders. Firebase privacy information.
• Google AdMob and User Messaging Platform: advertising, fraud prevention, and privacy consent. Google advertising privacy information and Google Privacy Policy.
• Google Play: purchases, subscription management, and optional store review flows. Google Privacy Policy.
• Cloudflare: website and media delivery, API hosting, reminder storage, and message processing. Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

We may disclose information when required by law, to protect the security or rights of users and the service, or in a business transfer subject to applicable privacy protections. We do not sell personal information for money. Advertising disclosures may qualify as “sharing” or targeted advertising under some laws; available controls are described below.

Android permissions

HearVine uses internet access for online content and services. Foreground media playback allows audio to continue with your screen off. Notification permission supports reminders and playback notifications. Where offered, exact-alarm and display-over-other-apps permissions support scheduled reminder alerts and a reminder overlay. Boot and time-change events help reschedule reminders.

Reminder-related permissions are optional and can be changed in Android Settings. Disabling them can affect reminders. The current app does not request access to your microphone, contacts, camera, or precise device location for its core listening features. Advertising services may infer an approximate location from an IP address.

Your choices and deletion

• Local listening data: open HearVine → Settings → Privacy → Data deletion to remove saved items, history, progress, and local listening-access records. This action also clears the local analytics queue in the current app.
• Other app data: Android’s app storage controls can clear app data and downloaded content. Local deletion does not delete records already held by service providers or cancel a subscription.
• Reminders: change each reminder switch in the app and notification, alarm, or overlay permissions in Android Settings. Disabling notifications does not itself erase an existing server registration.
• Advertising: use the app’s Privacy choices where available to review or change Google consent settings. Android also provides advertising ID and ad privacy controls, with options varying by device and region.
• Subscriptions: manage or cancel through Google Play subscriptions. Uninstalling or deleting data does not cancel billing.

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of personal information, object to or restrict processing, withdraw consent, or opt out of certain advertising disclosures. Use the developer contact details on HearVine’s Google Play listing, when available, to make a request or ask about server-side reminder records. We may need information to identify the relevant installation and verify a request. You may also contact your local data protection authority.

Retention and security

Local information remains until you remove it, clear app storage, or uninstall the app. The analytics queue retains a limited number of recent events and removes acknowledged events after successful upload when configured. Server reminder registrations and delivery records are retained as needed to operate reminders, maintain reliability, prevent abuse, and meet legal requirements. Expiration or disabling of a reminder registration does not necessarily mean immediate erasure of stored records. Provider retention periods follow their own policies.

We use HTTPS for service requests and access controls for backend services. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, and we cannot promise absolute security. Provider records and server-side information require separate handling from device-only deletion.

Legal bases and international processing

Where applicable, processing is based on providing the service you request, consent for optional features or advertising where required, legitimate interests such as security and service reliability, or legal obligations. Where information reveals religious beliefs and applicable law requires an additional basis, we rely on an appropriate legal condition, including explicit consent where required.

Our providers operate internationally, so information may be processed outside your country. Where legally required, transfers are subject to recognized safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses or an applicable adequacy decision.

Children’s privacy

HearVine is not directed to children under 13, or a higher minimum age where required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please use the contact route below so the concern can be investigated.

This website

This website does not use advertising cookies, third-party analytics scripts, account registration, or contact forms. Images, styles, and scripts are served with the website. Cloudflare may process technical request information for hosting, security, and abuse prevention. Links to Google Play or provider websites take you to services governed by their own policies.

Updates and contact

We may update this policy as the service changes. The date at the top of this page identifies the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated as required by applicable law.
